This documentary about a first time writer and director is a "must see" for anyone involved in film. It tells the story of Troy Duffy, a bouncer a an LA bar that managed to get his first script read by Harvey Weinstein, the head of Miramax. Shortly after they make a deal for the screenplay and for Troy to direct. Troy recieved $300,00 for the script and a budget of 15 million for the film in his first directorial debut. And then......everything goes wrong. From Troy openly ripping on A-list actors, "I will never do anything with Kenuea Reeves, he's a fucking punk and a worthless actor." to his graphic arguments with a VP at Miramax, the documentary catches it all. I was amazed at Troy's behavior in the documentary. It was as if he didn't know that he was being filmed, from ripping on everyone to telling his entourage that they were trying to "Jew" us down, it was incredible what he said on camera. The train wreck continues to spiral downward as Troy destroys the relationship with his brother and becomes alienated in the industry. I think Troy's biggest mistake was thinking that this deal suddenly made him a genius. He keeps on harping on his unproven talent throughout the documentary. When in reality, all he really had was an exceptional way of communicating with a down to earth working man's tone, and an okay script. The documentary culminates to an unknown person trying to run down Troy with a car at a showing of "The Boondock Saints". A great quote at the end of the movie says, "Fame doesn't really change people, it brings out the person that was always there."
