Bold and the Brave, The (1956)

New York-born screenwriter Robert Lewin received an Academy Award nomination for his 1956 war movie, "The Bold and the Brave." After graduating from Yale he was a reporter for the Atlanta Constitution and Life magazine and a partner in a public relations firm before beginning his screenwriting career.

"The Bold and the Brave," based on his experiences fighting in Italy in World War II, was his first screenplay. The movie starred Mickey Rooney. He also wrote or produced many episodes for television shows, including "Mission: Impossible," "Gunsmoke" and "The Fugitive." He produced television's "The Paper Chase," which was nominated for an Emmy for best drama in 1978, and "Baretta," which received a nomination in the same category in 1976.

Lewin also was a producer for "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
