Stephen Gaghan is a confessed crack addict and apparently drew from many personal experiences for his script "Traffic," directed by Steven Soderbergh and for which Gaghan won an Oscar. Gaghan worked in television for a number of years before writing his first feature-film, director William Friedkin's military thriller "Rules of Engagement."
