Now he's a prolific actor, sometimes appearing in three or more films in any given year. He was born on August 4, 1955 in Hot Springs, Arizona, growing up poor. Although his father worked as a history teacher, Thornton's family was forced to live with his grandparents in a house without electricity or indoor plumbing. He had few friends during this time, one notable exception being Tom Epperson, who would later become a trusted colleague and screenwriting partner.
