Specializing in violent and dark noir-type screenwriting Andrew Kevin Walker has quickly established himself as an A-list screenwriter. Raised in Mechanicsburg, PA, Walker attended Penn State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Film Production. After graduating, he moved to New York City and worked on several low-budget independent films. By 1991, frustrated over his lack of success, Walker channeled his anger into crafting "Seven" (1994), a dark screenplay where a serial killer murders people based on the seven deadly sins. New Line Cinema bought the crime thriller and Walker relocated to Los Angeles soon afterward, all was now right. But it wasn't, "Seven" languised in development hell for several years. Luckily Walker found work contributing to HBO's "Tales From the Crypt", and also penning the thrillers "Brainscan" (1994) and "Hideaway" (1995). Interesting tidbits about "Seven" and "8MM": New Line requested that Walker tone down its gruesome (Head in the box) ending to make it more marketable. Luckily director David Fincher was accidently sent an early draft of the script that included the "Head in the box" scene, and agreed to helm the project. Eventually he and star Brad Pitt convinced executive producer Arnold Kopelson to keep the scene. Apparently Pitt was not convinced that all was agreed until he had his contract stipulate that the studio could not alter the final segment. "8MM" found itself bound to director Joel Schumacher who made changes to the script, rearranging and doctoring scenes to 'lighten up' the film, something that Columbia Pictures wanted but Walker refused. Walker eventually walked off the set and later refused to watch the film, which opened to scathing reviews and died at box-office.
Walker's most recent projects include an adaptation of Marvel Comics' "Silver Surfer" for FOX and a screenplay that pairs DC Comic heroes S"uperman and Batman" for director Wolfgang Petersen.
