SF Film Society To Honor Spike Lee

Academy Award nominee Spike Lee will receive the San Francisco Film Society's Directing Award during the 50th San Francisco Film Festival.
The award is to be presented during the organizations award night May 3, Variety said. The society previously announced it would honor Peter Morgan, for excellence in screenwriting, and George Lucas.
"Spike Lee is a masterful director and one of the most important filmmakers of our generation," said Graham Leggat, the society's executive director. "No American director of the last 25 years has done more to lever open and examine the inner workings of American society than he has."
The festival will also show a four-hour version of Lee's "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts."
The festival held the world premiere of Lee's "She's Gotta Have It" in 1986, which included a mid-movie power outage and a flashlight-lit, hour long interview with Lee on stage until power was restored.
