78th Academy Award Nominations, all BROKEBACK...

You know, this may be the first year in 20 that I purposely miss the Oscars. That is how disappointed I am with Hollywood and what is becoming a decadent awards ceremony.

The gay cowboy duo love story "Brokeback Mountain" led the Academy Awards field Tuesday with eight nominations, among them screenplay adaptation, best picture, and best actor Heath Ledger and director Ang Lee. Also nominated for best picture were the Truman Capote story "Capote"; the ensemble drama "Crash"; the Edward R. Murrow chronicle "Good Night, and Good Luck"; the assassination thriller "Munich."

The better deserving Johnny Cash biography, "Walk the Line," thought to be a best picture nominee got nothing.

George Clooney snagged three nominations: as supporting actor for his role as a steadfast CIA undercover agent in "Syriana" and best director and co-writer for his Edward R. Murrow tale "Good Night, and Good Luck."

Philip Seymour Hoffman got the nod, the best-actor favorite for his impressive impersonation of author Truman Capote in "Capote;" he won earlier at the Golden Globes. Though, he's a jerk, I thought Russell Crowe should have got a nod for "Cinderella Man".

Filmmaker Robert Altman, who has been nominated five times for best director but has never won, will receive an honorary Oscar for a career that includes such films as "M-A-S-H," "Nashville," "The Player" and "Gosford Park."
