Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Louis Alan Garfinkle has died from complications of Parkinson's disease in Studio City, Calif., at age 77.
The screenwriter of The Deer Hunter and co-creator of one of the first computer software programs for scriptwriters died Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.
Garfinkle's interactive scriptwriting program, Collaborator, was used at studios and by stars in the early 1990s, the newspaper said. The program posed questions to help shape movie treatments and helped writers flesh out their characters.
Garfinkle's other screenwriting credits included 1959's Face of Fire, The Doberman Gang of 1972 and the 1973 film Little Cigars. He also co-wrote the story for Kaye Ballard's 1973 Broadway musical Molly.
