Today's Actors Suffer from Bad Screenwriting Reports David Ansen...
September 20th, 2005
In a Newsweek web exclusive David Ansen did a live chat session and to debate which movie stars will be remembered 50 years from now, he thought that actors today suffered from bad screenwriting:
New York, NY Question: Who would pick as a hidden gem among today's actors?
David Ansen Answer: I could name many. Jeffrey Wright is one of the most amazing actors we have, and he's never the same twice (which means he'll never be a "star," just a great actor. I think Robin Wright Penn does consistently good work, and has been underappreciated. Ryan Gosling ("The Believers") is a huge talent who will emerge in the next few years. Also Terrence Howard ("Hustle and Flow" just opening now). I'm always impressed with Peter Sarsgaard and Patricia Clarkson, who have done their best work in independent films. Samantha Morton is an actress with an uncanny ability to let you know everything she is thinking and feeling. Theres plenty more I could mention.. We're living in a great age of acting... but unfortunately not a great age for screenwriting. The talent is greater than the movies available to them.
