Script Report: BEOWULF

According to reports, Warner Bros. is considering turning one of the oldest poems in English literature into a big-screen adventure. The Hollywood Reporter stated that the studio is setting up an epic production of "Beowulf", a poem that dates back to the eighth century. Relative newcomer Matthew Sand, described as “a former SoHo art dealer with a background in art history,” will write the script. The poem is thought to have inspired Tolkien to write The Lord of the Rings, and tells the story of an ancient warrior, Beowulf of the Geats, who must slay Grendel, an evil creature that is attacking a Danish kingdom. Ultimately, the warrior defeats Grendel, slays his mother and faces off with a fire-breathing dragon.
