Screenwriting Reality Show

LOS ANGELES, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. LA36, a free community access channel to Los Angeles cable subscribers, will broadcast "The Inside Pitch," an engaging new TV program about the art of selling a Hollywood script. This live, unscripted half-hour show is part, American Idol and part, Project Greenlight as it follows two ICM senior story executives, Christopher Lockhart and Jack d'Annibale, conduct a screenwriters' workshop.

"The Inside Pitch," produced by Matthew Kallis and the Kallis Foundation, originated out of Lockhart and d'Annibale's desire to hold free sessions that would advise and sculpt would-be screenwriters. From an "open-casting" call format, screenwriters voluntarily make their pitches in front of a live studio audience. After each presentation, Lockhart and d'Annibale give their critique, and at the end of the show, the audience helps select the winning pitch. The prize is a meeting with the two executives.

"LA36 is delighted to be the first to broadcast 'The Inside Pitch.' This partnership is a perfect example of the fresh, high quality community programming LA36 is bringing to the City of LA," said Stephen Grace, president and general manager of Los Angeles Cable Television Access Corporation (LACTAC), the nonprofit corporation that manages LA36. Producer Matthew Kallis further noted, "The Kallis Foundation selected LA36 to debut 'The Inside Pitch' because its mission reflects exactly the kind of community-based spirit of learning that the show is all about."

Christopher Lockhart, executive story editor for ICM who reads scripts for Mel Gibson and Denzel Washington, explained, "'The Inside Pitch' is about presenting the inside techniques and nuances of scriptwriting, but we also wanted to do more than a list of do's and don'ts." Jack d'Annibale, ICM's senior story analyst whose clients include Cameron Diaz and Jodie Foster, added, "By watching 'The Inside Pitch,' you can quickly grasp what makes a good script and, more importantly, how to get one of us to read it."

"The Inside Pitch" first premieres on June 23rd at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., June 26th at 8:00 p.m., and throughout the summer on LA36 and other local community access stations. An updated program schedule is posted on www.la36.org.
