Shane Black, YOU'LL NEVER DIE IN THIS TOWN AGAIN...
May 8th, 2003
Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) is apparently back in action. According to reports, Joel Silver is producing Black's new project. Details are scarce but the lead character rescues a Hollywood starlet from being sexually assualted by a Hollywood agent, only to wind up being assulted himself by said agent for his heroic actions. Here's a sample from the report:
After the success of Lethal Weapon, studios began bidding millions of dollars for his scripts. Black went on to write The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight, the latter of which he was paid $4 million for. That's still the record for how much a studio has shelled out for a screenplay.
Hooking up with his Lethal Weapon producer Joel Silver, Black wrote and will direct You'll Never Die in this Town gain, a post-modern drama with crime overtones set in show business. The story starts with the protagonist stopping a Hollywood agent from having his way with a semi-conscious actress, only to find his ass being kicked moments later by said agent outside the dressing room. The hero's buddy is a tough-as-nails private eye who happens to be gay, but that's all the details uncovered so far. The project is set up at Warner Bros.
That's not all Black's been up to. He also collaborated with Anthony Bagarozzi to write an action spec script called The Nice Guys. The script is being shopped around town right now.
