April 28th, 2003
New Line Cinema has picked up the comedy spec "Mr. Woodcock" from the writing team of Michael Carnes and Josh Gilbert.
The script revolves around a young man who returns to his hometown to stop his mother from marrying his old high school gym teacher -- the man who made his life a living hell when he was a student.
This marks the first feature spec sale for Carnes and Gilbert, who previously wrote for the ABC improv series "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

Indie producer Distant Horizon has inked a pact with Atlanta-based Flipbook Communications to bring the urban-underground comic book "Brotherman" to the big screen.
Based on the comic series by Jason and Guy Sims and Dawud Anyabwile, "Brotherman" follows Antonio Valor, a public defender by day and costumed avenger by night, as he goes up against the dark forces lurking in Big City, U.S.A.
The indie comic book "Brotherman: Dictator of Discipline" has independently sold more than 750,000 issues. Earlier this month, Distant signed "XXX" helmer Rob Cohen to direct and produce a live-action version of the Japanese anime cult classic "Kite."
