The Kiss of Death for McQuarrie's ALEXANDER Project?
May 4th, 2001
Mega producer Dino De Laurentiis has optioned the feature film rights to a trilogy of novels about Alexander the Great by Italian author/academic Valerio Manfredi. De Laurentiis and Manfredi are working together on an outline and treatment to adapt the 1,200-page work for the big screen.
Originally published in 1998 in Italy, 2.5 million copies of The Alexander novels have since been published in 42 countries and 21 languages. Simon & Schuster published the third volume, "The Ends of the Earth," in January in English and is scheduled to publish the first volume, "Alexander, Child of a Dream," in October in English.
What this means for Christopher McQuarrie's project ALEXANDER, penned by Peter Buchman, is unclear, but it doesn't look good. What if any momentum the project was picking up towards the end of last year has to all but be gone now.
