Elston Gunn's WEEKLY SCRIPT REPORT (Major Sales, Events, and other News!)

- Laura Morand Bailey has written EUROTRASH, picked up by Mad Hermit Venture, about a gang of European con artists who rip off American tourists. Production will begin this spring.

- Steven Lisberger is writing, with Richard Jeffries, and will direct a sequel to Disney's 1982 sci-fi cult film TRON. It will follow a computer hacker who transports himself into cyberspace to pull off the ultimate hack.

- John Turman (FREEDOM) has been tapped to write IRON FIST for Artisan, based on the Marvel Comics character. Ray Park (EPISODE I, X-MEN) will play the title role, a Westerner who was raised in a secret temple and can channel his lifeforce into his fist which can strike with the force of an iron. He returns to the United States to seek revenge for the murder of his parents.

- Thomas Vinterberg (THE CELEBRATION) is writing and directing IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE to star Claire Danes and Joaquin Phoenix. It's about a world-famous ice skater and her husband who are on the brink of divorce, but try to fight for their relationship. Shooting starts in April.

- Eve Ahlert and Dennis Drake have written DOWN WITH LOVE to be produced by Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen (AMERICAN BEAUTY). Peyton Reed (BRING IT ON) will direct the Fox 2000 romantic comedy, which is said to be an homage to the Rock Hudson/Doris Day pictures.

- Steppenwolf Theater, an acting troupe gearing up for film production, acquired WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT by Daisy Foote about a grocery store clerk, who belongs to a wealthy New England family, and his scheme to build an airport in his Long Island town.

- Richard Regen has written THE RED CIRCLE about a thief who is released on the same day a murderer escapes from custody of the police. The two encounter each other and work together to pull off a heist. It's a remake of the Jean-Pierre Melville film LE CERCLE ROUGE. Brett Ratner is attached to direct for New Line.

- Neil Jordan has written and will direct Nick Nolte in DOUBLE DOWN, inspired by the 1955 film BOB LE FLAMBEUR, about a gangster who wants to pull off one last heist at a French resort. Shooting is expected to begin in spring.

I haven't seen BOB LE FLAMBEUR nor LE CERCLE ROUGE (both directed by Melville), but the films based on these are my pick of the week (all the others sound interesting too). Yeah, they both involve pulling off a heist, but one teams up Neil Jordan with Nick Nolte. Looking forward to that one.

Happy new year/millenium. Hope good scripts are written and purchased this year.
