* Christian Gudegast and Paul Scheuring (upcoming MEXICALI) will write a sequel to New Line's soon-to-be-produced pic DIABLO about a mysterious figure who takes over a drug cartel. The sequel's plot is still being worked out while the first pic starts shooting Nov. 28 with F. Gary Gray (THE NEGOTIATOR) behind the camera.
* Harris Goldberg (DEUCE BIGALOW: MALE GIGOLO) will write an adaptation of David Carakeet's novel THE FULL CATASTROPHE for the big screen. Bel-Air Entertainment and Automatic Pictures will produce the pic. The story centers on a guy who takes on his brother's identity as a marriage counselor and ultimately tries to save the relationship of a couple whose marriage is doomed due to his incompetence.

However, heis so convincing with his charade, he is committed and tries to break out of the asylum to reconcile his marriage.
* Rich Dahm's script MY CANADIAN GIRLFRIEND, based on an article in the Onion, was picked up by DreamWorks for Montecito Pictures to produce. It's about a high school student who claims to have the most beautiful girlfriend in the worldis about a high schooler who becomes popular after claiming to have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world and becomes popular as a result. However, no one has ever seen her because she supposedly lives in Canada.
* John Logan (GLADIATOR, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, RKO 281) will write the 10th installment of the STAR TREK franchise for Paramount Pictures. Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner will star. Logan is also writing the Howard Hughes biopic for director Michael Mann.
* Don Rhymer (BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE) will rewrite Universal's CHAOS THEORY based on a script by Finn Taylor (DREAM WITH THE FISHES). It's about an insurance risk assessor and his female partner falling in love while investigating a series of bizarre accidents. Rhymer is currently penning two sequels: JUMANJI II for Sony and SANTA CLAUSE 2 for Disney.
* Michael Colleary and Michael Werb (FACE/OFF) will write an untitled drama for John Woo to direct. The plot is being kept under wraps, but it is said to not be an action/effects-driven story.

* The Canton Co. picked up Adam Gibgot's drama script PRICE about an Internet entrepreneur who suffers a nervous breakdown and is instituionalized, but finds out through the internet that a bunch of hishigh school pals were suffering from similar symptoms. They begin to wonder if their illnesses somehow correspond with a kid they used to tease, but who now is now in a position to get revenge as he works for the Department of Defense. Gibgot is also writing CONFIDENCE MEN with Toby Emmerich about a two conmen who are recruited by the CIA.
* Fox 2000 bought the spec MARCUS BRYANT: GHOST DETECTIVE from Bennett and Steve Scheneir about a streetwise cop who begins seeing ghosts after a near-death experience.

* Jon Favreau will co-write the romantic comedy project to star Ray Romano and Kevin James for Paramount Pictures/Alphaville.
I'm intrigued that the STAR TREK franchise tapped John Logan to write their next installment, but my pick of the week goes to MY CANADIAN GIRLFRIEND, because if it's half as funny as the Onion, then I'm there.
