Virtually American has picked up Seattle screenwriter Sable Jak's radio mystery
June 5th, 2000
Virtually American a radio drama web site out of Toronto, Canada has picked up Seattle screenwriter Sable Jak's radio mystery series: "A Phil Byrnes Mystery". The series debuted May 29th with two episodes of the first 7 episode season. One more episode is slated to air in the next few weeks. The last two episodes of the season were recorded with Jim Byrnes ("The Highlander" TV series) and are still in the can awaiting editing. The series centers around a modern female detective with a distinctive 40's noir style. Phil (Philomena) Byrnes runs the Byrnes Detective Agency with her assistant Buzzy Buzzelli. Her former partner (and husband) Peter Byrnes was killed at his desk forcing her to go it alone. Jak admits the radio series also has a screenplay version tucked away, but doing the story for radio gave her a chance to play with the characters and mix the 40's style with all the trappings of today, from cruising the morgue listings via internet to hanging out with local Goths. As much as she loves the performance of voice actress, Cheryl Massey-Peters, a well-respected singer and actress in Seattle, Jak admits she's always had a mind's eye picture of Signourney Weaver as Phil Byrnes in a film version. Virtually American boasts a full range of drama, comedy and detective, some old, some new and some down right blue. Their library is expanding at a fairly rapid rate and they're getting a lot of inquiries from writers interested in trying radio drama writing. *** For additional information contact: webmaster@virtuallyamerican.com
