Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (SIXTH SENSE) News

Last week it was officially announced that M. Night Shyamalan's The Village (previously known as The Woods) has started principal photography. It is set for an August 2004 release. Filmming begins tomorrow Tuesday, October 14th. As has been his desire of late, the film will be shot in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Set in 1897, The Village tells the story of a close-knit community that lives with the frightening knowledge that a mythical race of creatures resides in the woods around them. Joaquin Phoenix, Bryce Dallas Howard, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, and Sigourney Weaver star.

More News: The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Shyamalan is close to lining up his next prject. It may be a Fox 2000-based adaptation of Life of Pi, a best-selling novel by Yann Martel. This would be M. Night's first film not based on an original idea of his own.

Shyamalan would reportedly adapt, direct and produce the film which THR describes as "a magical adventure" that centers on Pi Patel, the brassy son of a zookeeper from Pondicherry, India (which happens to be Shyamalan's home town). When the family hitches a ride on a freighter, in the process of moving to Canada, there is a shipwreck and Pi is later found adrift in the Pacific on a 26-foot lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger.
