Script Sales: Paramount Pictures Has a MONSTER MASH and New Line Tumbles for THE
April 8th, 2003
In a pre-emptive bid, Paramount Pictures has picked up the Halloween family/adventure pitch "Monster Mash," which Ben Tripp will write for studio-based producer Jordan Kerner.
Simultaneously, Paramount has acquired the classic 1962 hit song "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett for use in the film.
The project, designed to be both live-action and CGI, takes place on Halloween day and centers on the notion that monsters actually exist, but the only day they can come out without being noticed is Halloween because everyone thinks they are in a costume. This is also the one day when monsters can accomplish all their errands and chores for the entire year. When a 14-year-old boy and his father discover this secret, a wild adventure ensues.
The producers plan to have a contemporary musical group record an update of "Monster Mash" for the film's release.
Tripp hails from the world of advertising and theme park design. "Mash" is based on a world and set of character drawings that he created.
