Script Report: BEAUTIFUL GAME
January 24th, 2003
Playbill reports that the film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical Beautiful Game is aiming for an October production start with comedian Ben Elton (who wrote the show's book & lyrics) having completed the script draft. The show is set in early 70's Belfast and follows a group of young men and women centered around a local youth football team during this unstable time in Northern Ireland's history. Serbian director Srdjan Dragojevic ("Pretty Village, Pretty Flames") has been lined up to helm, whilst the film will be shot in Northern Ireland, most likely with a cast of young, unknown Irish actors. New adaptations of Weber's Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love and Sunset Boulevard are also on the way.
