Script Report: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM

LONG WALK TO FREEDOM: Though he has been loosely linked for several years now, ScreenDaily reports that its now final and confirmed - Morgan Freeman is set to play the one and only Nelson Mandela. The film's director Shekar Kapur (Elizabeth ELIZABETH, THE FOUR FEATHERS) made the announcement at the recent Capri-Hollywood film festival and said of the man himself, "He is a spiritual hero like Gandhi...he does not need to fight a bloody battle in order to win". 'Long Walk' was an autobiography Mandela released back in 1995 although much of it was penned during his 27-year imprisonment on Robben Island by South Africa's apartheid regime. Since its release, South African producer Anant Singh has held the film rights with Kapur linked to the project since last year. William Nicholson is currently adapting the script, whilst Freeman has indicated recently he and Mandela had made a pact to meet up whenever they are within 1,000 miles of each other to help him prepare for playing the role. Thanks to 'Geoff'.
