Script Report: THE FOOL

Ivan Reitman will direct the romantic-comedy THE FOOL it was reported. THE FOOL is based on a screenplay by MEN IN BLACK 2 scribe Barry Fanaro that DreamWorks and Montecito picked up for mid-six against low-seven figures. It tells the story of the richest man in California and his seven wives and 12 daughters. The project is based on an unpublished novel of the same name by Susan Trott. Fanaro optioned the novel out of his own pocket and wrote the screenplay on spec. Pollock said he came to know Fanaro after reading his screenplay for THE CREW, about four retired mobsters, which Buena Vista Pictures released in 2000. "He wrote a really good script with THE CREW, and we met with him and started a relationship long before MEN IN BLACK 2, " Pollock said. "We live up here in Santa Barbara (Calif.), as does Barry, so we like the fact that he lives only a few blocks away."
