Script Report: WRECKED
July 26th, 2002
Former development executive-turned-screenwriter Steven Gilder sold his spec script WRECKED to Paramount Pictures. The script is described as "a sexy thriller set against the backdrop of treasure hunting in Bermuda," and is compared to THE DEEP. It centers on a husband and wife, who accidentally discover a sunken treasure that leads to betrayal, deception and jeopardy.
How Gilder sold the script is actually interesting. As a former vp at Dark Horse Entertainment he recently applied for a development position. They called Gilder to say that no positions were available, so Gilder pitched his script mentioning it to be in the vein of THE DEEP. It just so happened that the executive who called was a fan of the classic film, and asked to read it. They took it to Paramount who picked it up. Some guys are lucky, and some are just good, we'll see about Gilder, whose deal was brokered by managers Todd Sharp and Chris Emerson and Colden, McKuin & Frankel. This is his first script sale.
