De Bont delivers COURIER

SPEED director Jan de Bont is in final negotiations to helm THE COURIER, which is about a mythical figure who makes deliveries to anyone, anywhere with no questions asked. He is hired to make a delivery to a legendary underworld figure who has been considered impossible to find. The budget is set at fifty million. Casting is set to take place soon, but no one is solid; Brad Pitt has long been attached.

Jan de Bont is one of the few directors who have regressed as hes gained experience. After years as a valued cinematographer, he moved on to his directing career with a bang by bringing the world the popular SPEED. Then made a bad movie a hit -- TWISTER -- and later fell down a hole with the abysmal SPEED II and THE HAUNTING. Ive never seen a CGI film more ineptly directed than HAUNTING. Its as if de Bont, hexed by his DIE HARD director John McTiernans style of directing, couldnt stop himself from using a handheld camera when the action clearly called for something else.

Jan de Bont was going to direct MINORITY REPORT -- that is, before Steven Spielberg took it away from him (hes now a producer on the film). He also has a project in the pipeline about talking food. Did I mention this guy has a very weird, very off, very, shall we say, misinformed, sense of material?
