The Coen Brothers Break My Heart
January 30th, 2002
For all their artsy, no-compromise films, the Coen Brothers arent above taking writing assignments.
First they rewrote the script INTOLERABLE CRUELTY (which they are going to direct). And now its GAMBIT, an update of a Brit comedy. And, worse still, a possible starring vehicle for Hugh Grant.
Original film revolves around a British thief who conspires with a beautiful woman to rob a rich guy of his expensive statue. The heist is imperiled by a series of double-crosses. It starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.
Actually sounds like a good Coen Bros. flick. Maybe theyll direct this one, too. Might as well, since the only-direct-their-own-material creed is gone.
