GARFIELD: THE MOVIE

In the Bad Ideas category we have...

20th Century Fox plans to make a live-action movie based on the famous GARFIELD cartoon by Jim Davis.

I used to adore GARFIELD when I was a kid. Hes a sarcastic, laconic witty sonofagun who gorges himself on lasagna. If you knew how much that describes me youd be sick.

But GARFIELD just isnt suited for a movie -- especially not one that is live-action. If they have to make it into a movie, why not use the original drawings? CGI characters can work -- weve seen this in a number of movies -- but why foot for the mind-boggling expense? Because a cartoon is for kids, and a live-action adaptation is not?

They hired TOY STORY co-writers Joel Cohen (now working on THE SIMPSONS) and Alec Sokolow, so theyre not joking around on this one. You might actually see it rise from the page.

Im sure SCOOBY-DOO will affect the development of this project. Scooby is all CGI, too.

When SCOOBY dives down the toilet, maybe theyll reexamine this and realize its not a good idea.
