Producer sues over KNIGHTS TALE

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Producer Tim Van Rellim is suing filmmaker/screenwriter Brian Helgeland (LA CONFIDENTIAL), producer Todd Black and attorney Alan Wertheimer in a financial dispute over his role in the recent Columbia release A KNIGHT'S TALE. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges breach of contract and unjust enrichment, among other charges.

According to the suit, Van Rellim and Helgeland agreed in late 1999 to jointly develop and produce KNIGHT'S and entered into an oral agreement in which Helgeland agreed to assign one-half of his eventual producer contingent fee to Van Rellim. Van Rellim and his attorney, John Mumford, said that Helgeland soon after pacted with Columbia to be paid 2.5% of the gross proceeds of the film as defined by the studio.
