Script Report: A SMILE AS BIG AS THE MOON

The Walt Disney Co.-based producer Jerry Bruckheimer has optioned the rights to the upcoming nonfiction book "A Smile as Big as the Moon" (aka "Einstein's Children") which he will produce through his Bruckheimer Films. It is the true story of a high school football coach and special education teacher whose students competed against and beat many mainstream students in athletic and academic competitions at a NASA sponsored space camp. The novel was written by the real-life teacher, Michael Kersjes, along with author Joe Layden. Kersjes has since founded the Space Is Special Foundation to help other special ed students around the country participate in space camps. The deal was reportedly worth mid-six figures.
There is no screenwriter onboard yet to adapt.
