TRAFFIC Was A Golden Screenplay Winner...

"Thank you so much to the members of the Hollywood foreign press," was of course the most popular phrase of the night. In what is considered to be the most "fun" event of the award season, actors, directors, writers, and other artists turned out in force to let their hair down in the relaxing atmosphere of the Golden Globe Awards.

As an unpredictable season for movies as it was, it is fitting that no one film dominated the night. GLADIATOR walked away with Best Dramatic Motion Picture and top nod for Music in a motion picture.

The most important award of the night, Best Screenplay, went to Stephen Gaghan for TRAFFIC, a solid win for an outstanding movie and script. It surely was close with Cameron Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS, which won Best Comedy Motion Picture of the year.

I was very pleased with Hans Zimmer's win for Best Score for his effort on GLADIATOR. If you get a chance to rent the DVD, there is an excellent documentary on the making of the score featuring Zimmer.

Al Pacino was visibly humbled by his receiving of the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, if you had the pleasure of witnessing this you were certainly moved.

The funniest moment of the night goes to George Clooney. After winning the Award for Best Actor, he had this to say:

"I think when you list the names of the actors in this category that you've got to figure I'm going to win this," Clooney said seriously. Listing his competitors - Jim Carrey, John Cusack, Robert De Niro and Mel Gibson - and then he cracked, "What have they done?" The audience of course broke out in laughter.

All in all the Globes are still showing the Oscars how it is suppose to be done... Oh yeah, and the Globes seem to always get done on time... something the Oscars never do.
