CAST AWAY Scribe Is Blinded By Seven-Figure Deal...
January 18th, 2001
Deep River Productions, David Friendly and Marc Turtletaub's new company, has paid a seven-figure sum for a blind script commitment from scribe William Broyles (CAST AWAY, PLANET OF THE APES).
Broyles is currently rewriting two of his own pre-existing projects: TOM HARRIS, a period Western about Texas cattle ranching, which Michael Mann was going to direct before he became attached to THE INSIDER and now ALI.; and KAH SANH a film about a Vietnam siege that he has been working on with Tom Hanks.
Today's reported deal made by his Creative Artists Agency agent Robert Bookman, Broyles reported that Friendly and Turtletaub will get one of his next two original scripts. According to the deal, Broyles will also write an original script for the company.
From the report, "Part of our philosophy is wanting to go after the best, and Bill is one of the top screenwriters in the business," Turtletaub said. "It's rare when there's only one writer on a film, and CAST AWAY embodies so much of what we're trying to accomplish. It's a moving story about human potential that makes you think."
