WGA and Producers Agree to Early Negotiations
January 3rd, 2001
With less than four months left on its current film-TV contract the WGA has agreed to start early negotiations with producers, and the top execs of Hollywood studios and networks have agreed to launch formal negotiations over a new contract on Jan. 22.
This move on the apart of the WGA is an optimistic sign on an otherwise gloomy Hollywood labor scene since the standoff began. Other efforts have thus far been stalled by the threat of rollbacks.
Should the WGA strike, the fall TV season would suffer serious damage, and combine that with a SAG and AFTRA strike, production would come to a standstill.
