Script Report: ENOUGH
November 9th, 2000
ENOUGH is a Columbia Pictures project based on a spec script penned by Nicholas Kazan (BICENTENNIAL MAN). Reportedly the project has found a director and leading actress. Jennifer Lopez (THE CELL) and Michael Apted (THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH) are in negotiations to star in and direct, respectively. The story follows a young newlywed woman's descent into domestic violence. Realizing her husband will never leave her alone, she learns martial-arts. The story ends with a deadly showdown.
Columbia acquired the script in February for nearly $1 million. Kazan is one of the writers encompassed by parent firm Sony Pictures' unique writers pact last year with 30 established screenwriters. The groundbreaking deal will supply the studio with up to 340 scripts over four years while guaranteeing each writer at least 2% of the pics gross receipts.
We haven't heard much about the historical pact for a while. It seems clear that this pact will widen the gap between the upper echelon and lower level professional. The have and the have nots. Every screenwriter should fight for a percentage of gross.
