Script Report: Steve Martin Options Play

Playwright, author, screenwriter and actor Steve Martin has optioned the screen rights to his play PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE to Indie production company Abandon Pictures. Martin's not expected to star, but has not ruled it out. Fred Schepisi (ROXANNE) will direct next year. If the two end up working together it will mark the first time since the 1987 hit.

His play premiered at the Steppenwolf Studio Theater in Chicago in 1993. Shortly after it moved to New York, then Los Angeles and San Francisco. The play is a comedy that has Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein meeting by chance at a pub during a fictitious night in 1904.

Martin recently published his first novella "Shop Girl." Recently he wrapped NOVOCAINE, an Artisan comedy with Helena Bonham Carter and Laura Dern.
