Script Report: BETSY AND THE EMPEROR

Interesting development of late. If a Napoleon script was ever going to be made into a movie I really had hoped it would be Kubrick's script. Word out of Hollywood is that there is going to be a movie made about the Emperor with Al Pacino set to play Bonaparte. Actress-producer Colleen Camp is reportedly the major force behind Pacino's involvement.

Jean-Claude Carriere (THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING) has adapted BETSY AND THE EMPEROR (God, please change the name), an unpublished manuscript by author Staton Rabin. The drama is based on the French emperor's exile to the island of St. Helena where he develops a fictonalized relationship with the young daughter of his jailer on the island.

Patrice Chereau (QUEEN MARGOT) will reportedly direct the picture. The film is being developed by Warner Bros. Storyopolis Producitons.
