Script Report: THE MIRANDA OBSESSION
September 28th, 2000
From today's Variety: Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah Lutz took a gamble and called up Robert De Niro. They wanted to adapt MIRANDA, and the gamble paid off, they got the assignment. The writing duo had already adapted LEGALLY BLONDE -- a book-adaptation comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Davis, shooting starts in October in Los Angeles.
MIRANDA is based on a Vanity Fair article "The Miranda Obsessions," which detailed a mysterious female phone confidant of movie stars (one of whom was De Niro) and other celebs during the 1980s. No one ever knew her true identity. She now lives an average life somewhere in the Midwest.
The rights to MIRANDA were purchased by De Niro's Tribeca Prods. for MGM. De Niro and Tribeca partner Jane Rosenthal will produce, De Niro to possibly helm the picture.
