Live at Telluride: THE TELLURIDE FILM FESTIVAL
August 31st, 2000
by CHRISTOPHER WEHNER
Well, it's Thursday afternoon about 3:30pm and I have the Telluride Film Festival Schedule. I'm here with my good friend Oatmeal Man, who will be helping with film reviews.
Here are some of the films of interest that are showing tomorrow:
John Malkovich plays F.W. Murnau in Elia Mehrige's SHAWDOW OF THE VAMPIRE. Murnau's 1921 classic NOSFERTA, cinema's first true vampire film, is even today still highly regarded by film noir lovers. Steve Katz is the screenwriter, and I think this film will be one of the more popular films at the festival.
Another one that I can't wait to see is CHOPPER, directed by former video/commercial director Andrew Dominik. CHOPPER is based on Mark "Chopper" Read's best-selling autobiography, who described himself as Australia's 'Al Capone.'
Here's Friday's line-up.
SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE
ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER
CHOPPER
TIME OF DRUNKEN HORSES
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
OUR LADY OF THE ASSASSINS
DINNER RUSH
CHINESE COFFEE
SUNSET BOULEVARDS
The most important event at the festival in my opinion will be ELMORE LEONARD, STORYTELLER. Saturday 5:30pm, and I'll be sure to have a report.
Elmore Leonard's novels have been the source of some of my favorite films: GET SHORTY, JACKIE BROWN, OUT OF SIGHT, 52 PICK-UP, and many more...
Film clips will be followed by a panel with Barry Sonnenfeld, Steven Soderbergh, Paul Shrader and the man himself, Elmore Leonard.
Live from Telluride, Chris...
