Script Report: MINORITY REPORT

According to Variety Frank Daradont is indeed doing yet another rewrite of the MINORITY REPORT script (Spielberg to direct, Tom Cruise to star). Scott Frank has other commitments and is not able to continue with his draft.
A screenplay going through several rewrites is nothing new. However, MR already has a long list of writers.
I don't think this is necessarily a good or bad sign. Certainly getting Frank Darabont to rewrite a script is a good move. But think about it, when a script is constantly rewritten there are usually several possible reasons: because the star demands it, the director or the studio are not happy with it, or maybe the story (the script is based on a short story by Phillip K. Dick) just isn't transferable -- it won't play on the big screen. This has happened before, usually with the studio still plowing forward with a doomed story. As I've read several drafts of MR, I'm beginning to think the latter is a possibility. I don't know, just my opinion.
