Screenwriting in the News (6.2.2014)

As we know Carter Blanchard is rewriting INDEPENCE DAY 2, Nia Vardalos is penning a MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2 script, and Joe Gazzam is writing a remake of CLIFFHANGER.

Last year’s hit zombie thriller WORLD WAR Z has a sequel in the works as we know. Juan Antonio Bayona is already on board to direct and recently it was announced that veteran scribe Steven Knight will pen the script. Knight is British born and started out in the 1990s as a TV writer until he broke through after submitted a screenplay to the BBC Writersroom that went on to become DIRTY PRETTY THINGS.  Knight recently wrote and directed LOCKE, an independent film about a dedicated family man and successful construction manager, receives a phone call on the eve of the biggest challenge of his career that sets in motion a series of events that threaten his careful cultivated existence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Knight's involvement with the project might stem from an untitled World War II script of his that recently caught Brad Pitt’s attention.

Hey something other than remakes or sequels in the works. According to Deadline.com, Sony has picked up a family comedy/action-adventure pitch by Tripper Clancy titled STRANDED. The logline is being kept under close guard, but the movie is intended as Kevin James  feature. James and Todd Garner were also key to the pitch and will produce together with Sean Robins.

BEST OF THE REST:

Ava Dellaira is adapting her own novel “Love Letters to the Dead” for Fox 2000.

There's a remake of 2001 Australian cult hit THE MAN WHO SUED FOR GOD  going on by scribe Larry Charles for New Films International.

George Olson is writing untitled Jesse Owens project for Inspire Entertainment.

Stephen Rivele and Chris Wilkinson are rewriting CHINA BLACK CHAMBER for Fundamental Films and Grand Via Productions.
