Movie Magic Screenwriter

Final Draft used to be the first name in screenwriting software, but that's changed recently. I'm noticing more and more writers who are using Movie Magic Screenwriter. The reson is simple. Better software and better customer service.

The two programs have many of the same capabilities, meaning all of the necessary stuff is available in both Movie Magic and Final Draft. Movie Magic, however, contains a great deal more features and options. Frankly, I don't have the time or space to tell you everything a screenwriter can do with this software, so I'll stick to pointing out some of the major benefits of Movie Magic Screenwriter.

Movie Magic is a screenwriter's playground, bottom line. It's packed with all the features you need for writing and productio. There's support for storyboard linking, animation locking, and an array of story and production breakdown lists. The report tools are accessed through the print dialogue box, which presents you with a wide range of report and print options, including the ability to preview the reports, print a hard copy, or print to Adobe pdf. Options for printing include selected pages, selected scenes, shot lists, production breakdowns, forward or reverse order, double sided, etc.

Movie Magic has Script Notes, index cards that can be edited and shuffled, a scene pilot for overviewing your scenes in outline format, a name bank, full spellcheck and thesaurus, script analysis, the ability to compare two scripts, and true full-page view (if you want it). There's also Script Note Commander, which gives you access to all the notes in your script from one window.

Formats in Movie Magic include screenplays, sitcoms, stage plays, radio plays, novels, and multimedia formats. It also comes with templates for several television programs. You can edit any of the formats or create custom ones. In fact, every aspect of page layout can be adjusted to suit your needs. There's even a cheat feature and automatic repagination.

Movie Magic features iPartner (for collaborating with a partner over the Internet), voice read back of your script (which allows you to assign different voices to each script element), and the ability to register your script directly with Writer's Guild online.

Write Brothers, Inc should be as important to your decision to choose Movie Magic Screenwriter as the software itself. The company cares about the people who use their product. Customer service is top notch.

If you're in the market for high-end professional screenwriting software, Movie Magic Screenwriter is a good choice. I'm still a big fan of Sophocles, but if you are set on using one of the two "big" names, I suggest Movie Magic over Final Draft.
