Charlie Kaufman is perhaps the most intriguing screenwriter of our time. His screenplays have received recognition as stunningly original and cerebrally challenging creations. His stories deal with perceptions of reality. His characters are fresh, strange, provocative, and extremely organic. Early on he wrote plays and made short films as a student. He moved from Massapequa, New York to West Hartford, Connecticut in 1972 where he attended high school. As a comedic actor he performed in school plays and after graduation he enrolled at Boston University but but soon transferred NYU to study film. Charlie worked in the circulation department of the Star Tribune (Minneapolis) in the late 80s. In 1991 he moved to Los Angeles where he was hired to write for the TV sitcom "Get a Life" (1990). He went on to write a variety of TV show episodes. Between writing assignments, he wrote his offbeat and quarky screenplays, the first major success, "Being John Malkovich" (1999), which propelled him into almost legendary status among his peers. In 2002, the writer had three of his screenplays produced: "Human Nature", "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", and "Adaptation". All three films were cited when the Nation Board of Review named Kaufman Best Screenwriter of 2002.
