INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel gets a New Scribe

Fox is still serious about moving forward with their INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel as recently it was announced that they have tapped Carter Blanchard to work on the script--a relatively unknown screenwriter with nothing significant produced. However, Blanchard has been a busy scribe churning out an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kindergarten Heroes for Fox and and a draft of  SPYHUNTER at Warners. Blanchard broke onto the seen a few years ago when he sold his spec GLIMMER to DreamWorks-- finalized by a personal call from none other than Steven Spielberg himself. Drafts for the sequel were previously written by James Vanderbilt, Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. Emmerich  is still attached to to direct for a  potential July 1, 2016, release and is producing along with Devlin and Harald Kloser. No word on whether Will Smith is set to reprise his role. (Source)
