Sony Hires Chris Boal To Scribe ZORRO Reboot

Looks like Sony Pictures is going to reboot its ZORRO franchise here soon.  In 2005 was the last time we saw the swashbuckler character (played by  Antonio Banderas) on screen.  Screenwriter and playwright Chris Boal (no credits yet) has been tapped to write the script.  Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia had previously written a draft for the project, and reportedly Boal will be doing a rewrite. It is assumed to be a page one rewrite. Of note, Boal was a national tour competitive fencer before becoming a writer. Chris is the brother of writer/producer  Mark Boal (ZERO DARK THIRTY, THE HURT LOCKER), proving it doesn't hurt to have connections! Congrats Chris.

According to Deadline, the story action is described: "[as] less traditional swashbuckler, and more of a Dark Knight-style unveiling of the character with a new backstory, gritty realism and emotional core."
